STOPPING PLAGIARISM AT THE SOURCE: WHY ASSIGNMENTS MATTER

Every teacher dreads it—the plagiarised paper, the confrontation with a student, the demise of trust and learning. As education moves toward an online future, educators are understandably concerned about increases in plagiarism.

Yet while the problem is real, there are solutions beyond forcing teachers into the role of police. In this presentation, we will reconsider our assignments with the goal of discovering how we can stop plagiarism before it happens. We’ll also touch on the role of school and classroom culture and teacher attitudes and preparation.
